A very HUGE Thank You to everyone who supported GGG and took the time to cast their vote for us in the 2009 Boston Phoenix Best Music Poll. We are thrilled to take home the honors of “Best Roots Act,” especially being in such great company as our good friends Cassavettes, Dennis Brennan and Movers & Shakers. “There are all kinds of ways to approach this category — back-porch ballads, ’70s country twang, amped-up rockabilly two-step — but nobody throws it all together like Girls Guns & Glory, a local group who’ve perfected so many aspects of old-time Americana that you might as well elect them mayors of Frontiertown. (If only it didn’t seem that their term might end in all kinds of scandal and corruption.) GGG draw from the Slim Cessna’s Auto Club approach to country, mixing it up with mariachi trumpets, voodoo swing beats, sunny guitars, and manic punk tempos. “667” jams gunky neon bar-brawl blues with eerie spaghetti-western whistling — it’s the sort oThank Youf experimentation that keeps fans tipped back on their boot heels. Girls Guns and Glory Clinches Act of the Year, Outstanding Americana Act

As a fitting conclusion to an absolutely amazing year, Girls Guns and Glory walked away from the 21st Annual Boston Music Awards as the Outstanding Americana Act of the Year, and even more outstanding, as the BMA’s Local Act of the Year, beating out talented artists including Local Album of the Year winner, Akrobatic, and Local Male Vocalist winner, Eli “Paperboy” Reed.
This year’s BMA’s was a privately held event hosted at the Tremont Street Clubs, featuring performances from several of the nominees. Girls Guns and Glory rocked a 20 minute set on the event’s main stage at the Roxy.
